A detailed description of each benefit is provided below. Description of benefits of membershipRepresentation in the DC government process. First and foremost, the Federation ensures that the interests of our Members are represented to the Executive Branch of DC Government, DC Council, and the DC Department of Insurance and Securities Regulation. Weekly newsletter. Each week that the District of Columbia Government is in session, the Federation publishes a newsletter (Weekly Summary Report) available only to Members that covers events that occurred during the week and upcoming events. Read a sample Weekly Summary Report. (If you need Adobe Acrobat Reader, see below.) Legislative Session and Regulation Reports and Updates. The Federation prepares a report (the grid) listing all of the legislation that it is monitoring that is pertinent to the insurance industry. The grid identifies the bill, the purpose of the law, the committee where the bill has been assigned, and the status of the legislation. A similar grid is prepared for all regulations issued by the DC Department of Insurance and Securities Regulation. In-Depth Legislative/Regulatory Analyses. The Federation prepares special in-depth analyses on legislation and regulations through the lifecycle of the legislation and regulation. Conferences and seminars. The District of Columbia Insurance Federation holds conferences and seminars for Member companies, DC government, executive board officials, business owners, local trade associations, and consumers. These events include educational programs on insurance issues for governmental officials who may be enacting laws or regulations affecting the operations of insurance companies and policies. Late breaking news. We pride ourselves on keeping Federation Members in the loop. Depending upon the urgency of information we find, we either send E-mail or make a telephone call to ensure Member interests are represented. Membership meetings. The Federation holds bi-monthly membership meetings that report on important insurance activities occurring in the District of Columbia. This includes legislative and regulatory activities, and relevant activities in other agencies and organizations. Distinguished guest speakers from the public and private sector inform Federation Members about important activities on which their organizations are working, giving valuable off-the-record information to Federation members. Public board representation. The Federation represents the interests of the insurance industry by serving on public boards and commissions to provide input into the planning process to take into consideration insurance industry needs and concerns. Contacts and networking. The family of Federation Members and Associates Members provides an excellent networking opportunity. Discounted rates to Federation events. Federation Members obtain special discounts and preferential rates at Federation-sponsored events and conferences. Special Bulletins. The Federation issues special bulletins on important events, legislation or other pronouncements on an ad hoc basis.
